My God Too!
I created this blog a long time ago and have yet to actually post anything on it. I don't expect to get a million people reading my words. Frankly, I am doing this more for me than for anyone. I envision this as a place to vent my frustrations as I watch millions of Americans take my faith and my God and turn them into weapons.
There is a great scene in the movie "Saved" in which the main character tells Mandy Moore and her goons that "the Bible is not a weapon." This is a message that has spoken to me time and time again through the years. The bible is not intended to be a weapon for tearing each other down, but is to be a platform on which we can all be lifted up.
In arguably the most famous verse in the Bible, John 3:16, it states that "God so loved the WORLD. . ." It doesn't say that God so loved straight, white, protestant, men. God so loved the WORLD. If only his followers could grasp what that means. God is not hate. God is not an excuse for hate.
The hard part of all of this is not identifying the problems. *cough* *cough* Pat Robertson *cough* *cough* The problem is getting the moderate Christian world to stand up and and in a unified voice proclaim "Back the %&$# OFF!" Allowing our loving, caring, giving God to be transformed into a portal for hate and bigotry is something that I can stand for no longer. Whether it becomes wildly popular or just the idle rantings of left-wing nut job so be it.
